     Three hundred and fifty years ago French artist Claude Lorraine began to brush warmth and atmosphere into his many landscapes and became known a the Painter of Light.  Artists before his time, and many since, considered the landscape to be merely a stage backdrop behind other dramatic activity.  Never the raison d'être.

     Did it ever occur to him, as he fulfilled his lucrative commissions, that a errant backroads photographer, three hundred and fifty years later, would believe for a fleeting instant that he was Claude’s second coming.  The correct answer is, of course, no.

Stunning Announcement

     Today’s stunning announcement from the Stone Mountain Fungal Observatory (SMFO) rudely overturns 80 years of conventional wisdom and intellectual dogma.  “The Universe is shrinking at a delirious rate,” snorted Doctor Carl S. Flowers, “we are not star stuff after all.”  Those on hand gasped as the ghost of Edwin Hubble seeped under the back door.

It's Hot!

 

.

        Two and a half miles south of Brandywine, near Old Probst Church, this stunning apparition interrupted an otherwise absorbing cruise along the Potomac River.
        Earth tones dominate backroads photography.  Reticent grays and tans.  Brown and subdued rusts.  An occasional yellow, a streak of gold.  Greens.  And, more greens. 
        This Andrew Wyeth shed on steroids, an infinity’s distance from the digital universe, magnificent reds and dashing stonework, flushed me with admiration.  It’s still a hot number.
