A name like Double Culvert Creek tells us nothing about local history and cannot inspire the mind to inquire about traditions, frontier settlements, native American legends, or even the creek’s whereabouts. Yet, those who pass here always pause for a moment’s appreciation. Others stop for the full measure; rushing sounds compressed by the narrow hollow; a fairy tale path obscured by Canada violets; an incautious waterfall slipping over a hard rock ledge. Today, in the mist, in the fog, in the silver morning light Double Culvert Creek never felt more spectacular.
