That's a powerful shot. I'm almost inspired to keep my New Year's resolutions. Here are some thoughts on consequences.

"Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Half of the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm. But the harm does not interest them."
T.S. Eliot

"Sooner or later everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences."
Robert Louis Stevenson

ALL God's chillen got consequences.

Consequences R Us.

I just read an article that posits that the fastest growing religious form, in the world, over the past 35 years is what is known in the U.S. as Pentacostal. Assemblies of God, Jimmy Swaggart, etc.
This has seen especially strong growth in former Catholic strongholds such as central and South America.
My take is that people want to believe in consequences the way a child wants to be disciplined.

My guess is, religion sometimes uses the concept of consequences as a tool or as inspiration. Guilt, repercussions; rewards and gates of glory.
