Londoner Peter Collinson (1694-1768) made a fortune as a cloth merchant and spent most of it on his personal plant collections featuring 1000's of newfound species, and by funding global expeditions, and supporting the academic work of famous botanists. He also maintained extensive correspondence and seed exchanges with Carl Linnaeus and our own John Bartram. As a tribute to these contributions (and for his generous support) Linnaeus named this spiffy specimen Collinsonia canadensis - a mint commonly called Horse Balm, now blooming in the Park.
